16 July 2017, Dubai, U.A.E. Philippine Consul General in Dubai Paul Raymund Cortes emphasized the Government’s role in providing avenues for Overseas Filipinos in Dubai and the Northern Emirates to unleash and nurture their artistic pursuits. At a Press Conference held last Friday, 14 July 2017 at the Consulate’s Rizal Hall for the 12 Finalists of Dubai Dubai Musikahan 2 (DDM2) Song Writing Competition, the Consul General noted the very active music scene among Filipinos and hoped that the competition would open up new artistic opportunities for the Filipino migrant community. Dr. Yasmin Cortes, Chair of the Filipino Ladies of Dubai and Spouse of the Consul General, added that the Competition envisions a more heightened awareness of Filipino musical excellence not only among the Filipino community but also among the greater expatriate community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
DDM2 is organized by the Filipino Ladies of Dubai led by Dr. Yasmin B. Cortes under the auspices of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai. It is the only competition of its kind among all the expatriate community in the UAE. The competition, held in commemoration of National Language Month (Buwan ng Wika), aims to promote the excellent global repute of the Filipino in music, song production, and vocal performance. The winning composition will be produced and recorded by Star Music, part of the ABS CBN Group of Companies. The Finals will be held on 04 August 2017 at the Boracay Ballroom, Asiana Hotel in Dubai.
