The Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Dubai and N. Emirates welcomes the judgment of the Dubai First Instance Court yesterday, 28 May 2013, declaring Filipino national Mariam Kusain Abdullah innocent of the child molestation charges against her. The court ruled in her favor due to lack of sufficient evidence.
In September 2012, Abdullah was accused by her employers of molesting their children ages one, six, and seven who were all under her care. Her case was subject of numerous news reports both in the Philippines and the UAE and caused a stir when it was reported that capital punishment was being sought. At one time, Consul General Frank R. Cimafranca was interviewed in the radio program of former Vice- President Noli “Kabayan” De Castro concerning the case. The Criminal Case #26734/2012 was docketed at the Dubai First Instance Court.
The Consulate General’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Section, which has been monitoring the situation early on, engaged the services of Dar Al Bayan Advocates & Legal Consultants to represent Ms. Kusain through Ms. Kusain’ agency, Forsan Gulf Labor Supply, which was in full support of its ward.
The Consulate General and POLO Dubai shall see to it that all assistance is given to Ms. Kusain until her repatriation.
