The Consulate General of the Philippines in Dubai and N. Emirates showed solidarity with the Filipino Community in Dubai and N. Emirates in celebration of Bayanihan Festival last 30 November 2012 at Zabeel Park.
No amount of rain which poured since the evening of 29 November could dampen the spirit demonstrated by the organizers and participants alike as everyone, including the officials and staff of the Philippine Embassy and Consulate General, braved the morning heavy downpour and proceeded with the program, albeit under the umbrella, as they made their way during the traditional parade.
Ambassador Grace Princesa echoed this message when she told the wet crowd gathered around the emergency sound system that the true meaning of bayanihan is fully demonstrated in extraordinary times. She also mentioned that the presence of the entire Consulate General officers and staff headed by Consul General Frank Cimafranca was a testament that the government is in solidarity with the community.
The ambassador, in her keynote address, highlighted the principles behind her advocacy “Pinoy WISE Movement in the UAE”. She also called on those in attendance to avail of the opportunity made ready by the Department of Agriculture in its Agri-Business opportunities in the Philippines.
Themed “Halina’t Makiisa, Magtipon at Magsaya, Ipagmalaki ng sama-sama ang galing Pinoy!,” the 5th Bayanihan Festival was peppered with activities to the delight of the participants. Contests were held like Best Bahay Kubo, Likhang Pinoy Recycled Art Competition, Cup Cake Decorating, Ensalada Star, Flower Arrangement, photo competition and many more.
Songs and Dances abound with the different Filipino organizations showcasing their talents. Celebrities Jessa Zaragoza, Dingdong Avanzado, Jon Santos, Vin Abrenica and Sophie Albert also flew in to celebrate this year’s Bayanihan Festival.
