Officers and staff of the Consulate General of the Philippines in Dubai and N. Emirates headed by Vice Consul Geronimo Suliguin joined the Filipino Community in the annual community environmental campaign, Clean Up the World, which is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Themed “Our Place…Our Planet…Our Responsibility”, the cleanup was held 23 November 2012.

Eng. Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Head of Clean Up The World Team and also the Director of Waste Management Department ,Dubai Municipality, in a published interview, said that that the campaign focuses on public attention on global community concerns for the environment and how each individual can make a positive contribution to a cleaner and healthier world. It aims to make our creek, beaches, parks and streets healthy and clean by removing and recycling rubbish that is spoiling them.

The early morning event held at Al Mamzar Open Beach, the area designated for the participating Filipino community, was led by Lightform Int”l Photographers Guild, an accredited Filipino organization.

A total of 2, 325 volunteers from clubs, organizations, companies and other expatriates participated in the cleanup which generated 1,532 bags of collected waste.

Reports have it that Clean Up the World campaign is one of the most inspiring and effective international environmental initiative that attracts over 35 million participants in more than 120 countries each year.
