21 October 2012 – Ten (10) days before the Overseas Absentee Voting Registration (OAVR) ends on the 31st of October, the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Dubai and the N. Emirates finds its OAV new registration total passing the 21,000 mark.
It is noted that the Consulate General remained open for OAV registration on Fridays of October (5, 12, and 19) and Saturdays (13, and 20) from 9am-4pm to accommodate those who could not make it on weekdays. Moreover, teams were made available to attend to specially organized registration activities.
Following the recent mobile registrations in cooperation with nationals employed by Hilton Jumeirah Resort, Hilton Residence and Hilton Creek and with United Architects of the Philippines – Dubai (UAP), the OAV Team headed by Vice Consul Geronimo Suliguin conducted mobile registrations in Satwa, Al Quoz, Burjuman, and Jebel Ali.
Last 12 October, the OAV Team joined the Architects’ Basketball Association in the opening of its 2nd Season at Sayed Bin Sultan Boys School in Satwa. The following day, 13 October, in coordination with Vertical Space, a Filipino company based in Al Quoz Industrial I, Dubai, all Filipino staff of the company availed of the OAV registration.
The OAV Team also visited churches to encourage Filipinos hearing mass and congregating to participate in the registration process. Last 19 October, the Team was invited by Jesus is Alive Community where members eagerly registered. The same was true in the visit made by the OAV Team at the Catholic Church in Jebel Ali.
On the 23rd of October, the OAV Team, in partnership with The Philippine School (TPS) shall hold a one day in campus registration from 9am-4pm to benefit the faculty, staff, parents, and friends of the school as well as Filipino nationals in the area. Similar activities are also being considered to accommodate as many new registrants as possible.
While mobile registrations were on-going, several groups including SMPII and Migrante also availed of the registration process in the Consulate General. Some organizations which are part of the Filipino Community (FilCom Dubai) volunteered to marshal as well as register their members.
The Consulate General extends this invitation to all organizations, accredited or not, and all Filipino nationals in Dubai and N. Emirates to participate in the registration drive for the 2013 elections. Personal appearance and a photocopy of Passport’s data page are required.
