Consul General Benito Valeriano received visiting Philippine Postmaster General and CEO of Philippine Post (Phlpost) Ma. Josefina M. dela Cruz and party yesterday 18 September at the PCG premises.
The Postmaster General, accompanied by Mama S. Lalanto, al Haj, APMG for Administration and Maura Baghari-Regis, Area Director, was in a two day visit of Dubai in an effort to establish an understanding with the UAE’s Emirates Post (Empost) following a visit of similar nature in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In the evening, a welcome dinner cum Phlpost presentation followed with officers and staff of the PCG, Philippine Embassy Abu Dhabi, POLO-OWWA Dubai, Department of Tourism-ME, and the representatives of Empost, Landbank, the Philippine Business Council, FIlCom Governing Council, and leaders of various Filipino organizations in attendance.
During her short presentation, the Postmaster General shared with the audience the change in the business plan of Phlpost which is now involved in parcel and cash deliveries aside from the traditional mail. She also mentioned that Phlpost is engaged in talks with various institutions in an effort to establish an understanding for it to become a sizeable player in the area of parcel and cash door-to-door delivery services. With a big number of Filipino nationals in the region, Saudi Arabi and the UAE offer the best environment to jump start the new business plan.
Moreover, with Phlpost virtually present in all towns in the Philippines, it has the manpower as well as the logistics requirements to carry out door to door deliveries which it has been doing with the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program of the government.
The Postmaster General also urged those present that Phlpost be given a chance to prove its mettle which was received warmly.
