20 December – Tropical Storm Sendong may have left the Philippine area of responsibility but the massive flooding reported throughout Region X, especially in cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, left 957 dead, 1582 injured, 49 missing and affected  63,079 families. President Benigno S. Aquino III  declared a state of national calamity to expedite the access and release of funds to provide aid and hasten the recovery of affected areas.

Hon. Benito B. Valeriano, Consul General, on behalf of the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines, extends his gratitude to all Filipinos and friends who have already and are continuing to contribute to the relief efforts.

Monetary donations may best be channeled through the NDRRMC, the government agency tasked to coordinate with local governments.
