The Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines welcomes the election of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago as the newest Judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC). She is the first Filipino and first Asian from a developing country to sit in the ICC. Her election came last 12 December in New York held by the Assembly of States Parties. She is expected to serve a nine year term.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is the “first permanent, treaty based, international criminal court established to help end impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community”.
