FILIPINOS IN DUBAI SHOW GREAT INTEREST IN AGRIBUSINESS VENTURES
The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai (Dubai PCG), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), conducted the “Kabayan, Mag-Agribusiness Na Tayo!” webinar for Overseas Filipinos based in Dubai and the Northern Emirates on 10 September 2022 where over a hundred Overseas Filipinos participated. 10 September 2022, Dubai, UAE – Over a hundred Overseas Filipinos (OFs) based in Dubai and the Northern Emirates learned how to start their own agribusiness in the Philippines through the “Kabayan, Mag-Agribusiness Na Tayo!” webinar which was conducted by the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), on 10 September 2022.
The webinar, which was conducted via Zoom Video Conferencing and was simultaneously broadcast on Facebook, put into focus the various financing and technical programs for agribusiness offered by Philippine government agencies. Among the programs discussed was the Micro Agri-Kabuhayan Para sa Balikbayan Program, which was developed and run by the DA and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and tailor-made for Overseas Filipinos wanting to start a micro-business.
In his opening remarks, Consul General Renato N. Dueñas, Jr. urged the participants to consider starting their own agribusiness in the Philippines to augment their family’s income and also contribute in the growth and development in their respective regions.
The resource persons provided detailed information on how OFs may avail of the financing and technical assistance programs available in different regions. They also gave advice on how to continue learning about agribusiness through the DA and OWWA’s social media channels.
The webinar drew positive response from the participants who showed considerable interest in starting their own micro-agribusiness.
The webinar series is a joint project of Dubai PCG and its partner agency the Department of Agriculture, represented by Ms Nolet Fulgencio, Agriculture Attache in Dubai, aimed at promoting awareness and help build the capacities of OFs in Dubai and the Northern Emirates in the field of agri-business. The next episode of the series will be on 24 September 2022, 10:00 a.m. also via Zoom Video Conferencing and will be broadcast simultaneously via Facebook.
