PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN DUBAI
Prior to the establishment of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai in 2004, the Philippine Government’s presence in the UAE was the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi which was formally opened on 17 June 1980. The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Dubai (POLO Dubai)was established in 1986 and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC Dubai) was established in 1988.
The need for a consular office in Dubai had been felt for quite some time. It was however , the rapid growth of the OFW population in Dubai and the Northern Emirates at the start of the 21st century that made the establishment of a consulate in Dubai both urgent and advisable.
As a result, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai was established and officially opened by Consul General Generoso D.G. Calonge on 06 April 2004. Actual consular work began sometime in November of the same year, although operations became regularized only a few months later. The consulate was initially housed at the premises of of POLO Dubai and the consulate transferred to its own office in Hamriyah area in March 2005. The consulate later tyransferred to Al Qusais area in September 2006.
The consulate moved to its current office in Al Qusais 3 in September 2011. The consulate’s lease agreement will expire in 2019.
PCG Dubai has consular jurisdiction over the emirates of Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Kahima, Ajman, Umm Al Qwain and Fujairah.
