27 October 2016, Dubai, UAE. The Philippine Consulate in coordination with the Filipino Ladies of Dubai hosted Breast Cancer Awareness Forum at the Consulate on 26 October 2016. This is in celebration of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October.
The event was attended by over (seventy) 70 guests from different Filipino Community Organizations, UAE government offices, and hospitals, among others. The program included videos from Brest Friends Foundation and recorded interviews of Ms. Rosinni Silor, daughter of the late Mr. Pablito Fabito, a rare case of male-breast cancer patient and Ms. Erlinda Fabello, 68 years old, from Odiongan Romblon, 11 years breast cancer survivor.
Testimonies were also presented by Ms. Maritess Seguerra, a Procurement Executive in Aujan Group Holdings, 7 years residing in Dubai and survived breast cancer for more than 5 years now; Ms. Catherine Un, single, a graduate of Bachelor of Science and Computer Science in Information and
Computer Science, 9 years residing in Dubai and was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in December 2015; and Ms. Leila Tacsan, 40 years old, married with one daughter. A registered nurse at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Mediclinic Welcare Hospital, Garhoud, Dubai.
Dr. Antonio Ronaldo Fabian, a General Medicine doctor from Amber Clinic, Al Rigga, Dubai, also shared an overview about breast cancer, its types, symptoms, causes, risks, factors, myths and facts and treatment, among others.
Consul General Paul Raymund P. Cortes, in his closing remarks, thanked the guest speakers who shared their stories and knowledge about breast cancer illness. He also disclosed the Consulate’s plan to conduct regular awareness projects for the Filipino community.
The guests were serenaded by the Dubai, Dubai Musikahan Grand Winner – Ms. Eyzelle Salinel with the song “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten.END
