13 May 2018, Dubai— The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, together with the League of Filipino Gentlemen in Dubai (LFGD), held the 2nd Congen’s Cup Series – Dragon Boat Regatta at the Ras Al Khaimah International Marine Club, in tandem with the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation. Some 30 teams participated in the regatta and with over 1500 spectators, the event became the largest professionally organized dragon boat race in the history of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation.
The Congen’s Cup is the Consulate’s avenue to engage more effectively with the Filipino Community and strengthen interaction among the various Filipino community organizations, fostering a deeper sense of camaraderie among the Filipino Community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Organized in June 2016, the Congen’s Cup has featured several sports in 4 separate series -- bowling, billiards, and chess in September 2016; badminton, darts, and table tennis February 2017; basketball in September 2017; and mountain biking in November 2017.
More series for the 2nd Congen’s Cup (2018) are being planned. Among the sports include bowling, volleyball, and possibly arnis. The Congen’s Cup has grown to be one of the most awaited events of the Filipino sporting community. END
